In 2021–22, the percentage of EU academic staff remained similar (17%) to 2020–21 figures, while the percentage of non-EU academic staff decreased slightly from 16% to 15%.

In 2021–22, non-UK staff accounted for only 15% of staff doing education-related teaching or research, as opposed to 48% of academic staff in engineering and technology.

In 2021−22, 48% of academic staff at UUK member institutions were female, while 35% of staff were working part-time. 28% were 35 years old or less.

Although the number of BAME, academic professorial staff has increased year on year since 2015−16, they only accounted for 14% of academic professorial staff in 2021-22. More than half (61%) of academic professorial staff were white men.
