Professor Tim Jones has been Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool since January 2023.
Professor Jones is an alumnus of the University, gaining his undergraduate and PhD at Liverpool. Previously, he was Provost at the University of Birmingham. He has also held several senior leadership positions at the University of Warwick, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Business Engagement and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Science, Engineering and Medicine.
Tim is Chair of the Liverpool Health Partners Board and from 1st August 2025 will be Chair of the N8 Research Partnership. He is also a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Business and Enterprise Board, the LCR Innovation Zone Programme Board, the Liverpool-Manchester Partnership Board, the Liverpool Knowledge Quarter Board and the Sciontec Board. He is a Director of the Russell Group and has been elected as UUK Policy Lead International and a member of Universities UK (UUK) Board, for 3 years from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2028.
Tim has previously undertaken several external roles connected with the research and innovation agenda, including being a Board member of organisations such as the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the Welsh Science and Innovation Advisory Council, and the Alan Turing Institute.
The thing I love most about my job is that universities such as Liverpool are full of such fabulously talented people, both staff and students, who are full of new and creative ideas. There can surely be no other sector like it.
