Professor Tim Jones was elected to the UUK UK Board as Policy Lead International on 1 August 2025.
Professor Jones has been Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool since January 2023; he was previously Provost and Vice-Principal of the University of Birmingham from 2016.
Professor Jones is Chair of the Liverpool Health Partners Board and the N8 Research Partnership. He is also a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Business and Enterprise Board, the LCR Innovation Zone Programme Board and the Liverpool-Manchester Partnership Board.
Professor Jones has held several roles connected with the research and innovation agenda, including being a Board member of organisations such as the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the Welsh Science and Innovation Advisory Council, and the Alan Turing Institute.
The thing I love most about my job is that universities such as Liverpool are full of such fabulously talented people, both staff and students, who are full of new and creative ideas. There can surely be no other sector like it.
