Responding to Burnham’s piece in The Times, Vivienne Stern MBE, Chief Executive of Universities UK said:
University is the right choice for many, but not all young people. The education system is deeply connected and universities deliver a huge amount of technical and vocational education. But there has been a decline in non-university routes into employment, so we fully support the ambition to create a variety of high-quality routes from education to employment for all.
“We are working to strengthen the links between universities and local employers, help graduates into good jobs and give businesses the talent they rely on. We are also deepening our work with the Association of Colleges to improve collaboration between universities and colleges.
