Ailsa Kienberger
Head of Education and Society
Ailsa Kienberger is Head of Education at the British Council in Germany.
She is responsible for the British Council’s strategy and programmes in higher education, science and schools throughout Germany. Ailsa studied German in Manchester and Berlin and has over 20 years of experience working in UK-German relations in the fields of education and scientific exchange.
Franziska Enichlmayr
Policy Officer Europe
Franziska Enichlmayr leads UUKi's policy and engagement work with Europe, supporting UK institutions to achieve their international aims. In this role, she works across UUKi's policy areas Global R&I, Global Talent, International Experience, and Transnational Education while managing the Europe Network for UUK members. Franziska holds a master's degree in Higher Education from the University of Oxford and undergraduate degrees in Political Science and History from the University of Innsbruck.
Professor Duncan Ross
Deputy Head of the College of Social Sciences and Dean of Learning and Teaching
Duncan Ross is Professor of Economic and Social History and Dean of Learning and Teaching in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow. He is Programme Coordinator of the EU-funded Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL) Erasmus Mundus International Joint Master. His research has focused on European banking and financial history and on Foreign Direct Investment into Scotland in the period since the 1950s.
Dr Stephen Soanes
International Partnerships Manager (Europe/EUTOPIA)
Stephen joined International Strategy and Relations in 2023, following nine years in Student Recruitment, and a longer student history at Warwick that stretches back to 1998. His work provides strategic and operational management across activities within Warwick’s European strategy, particularly for Warwick as founding member of the EUTOPIA European university alliance.
Activities include support for Global Engagement (WP4.5), including Internationalisation at Home and Responsible Internationalisation, which links EUTOPIA’s European partners to the wider world. Leading the Europe Team, Stephen works to connect internal and external stakeholders to deliver multilateral and bilateral project collaborations both within and beyond EUTOPIA.
Jana Baier-Kohl
Project coordination “COIL4all @HWR Berlin
Jana Baier-Kohl is a project coordinator at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin), specializing in the facilitation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and the digital internationalization of university teaching. She heads the "COIL4all @HWR Berlin" project, which promotes virtual exchange and hybrid international teaching formats. Jana has dedicated the past 10 years to fostering international exchange and collaboration through her work in International Offices at universities in Germany and Turkey. With a deep passion for connecting people across borders, she has supported countless students, researchers, and faculty in realizing their global ambitions.
Andréa-Claire Edwards
Director of Global Relations and Research
As Director of Global Relations and Research, Andréa has responsibility within External Relations for leading the University’s global engagement agenda in key regions, with a focus on international research collaboration and reputation.
With over 25 years’ experience in education management at Aston, Southampton and Birmingham universities, Andréa has expertise across all aspects of the internationalisation agenda, including student recruitment, international student support, student mobility, international relations and strategic alliance management.
Her current remit includes responsibility for UoB’s global engagement strategy in the Americas, Europe and Australasia, global education and research alliance networks, and diplomatic relations.
In 2022 Andréa was selected to be a Queen’s Baton-Bearer for the Commonwealth Games in recognition of her services to global education. She has an Executive MBA (distinction) from the University of Birmingham and an undergraduate honours degree in French and Business.
Professor Tim Albrecht
Professor of Physical Chemistry and Director of Global Engagement
Tim studied Chemistry at the University of Essen/Germany and, following extended research visits to the ITQB in Oeiras/Portugal and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), obtained his PhD from the MPI of Bioinorganic Chemistry and TU Berlin in 2003. After returning to DTU as a Marie-Curie postdoctoral fellow, he took up a Lecturer (Assist. Prof.) position in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London in 2006.
In 2017, Tim joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham as Chair of Physical Chemistry. He is currently Director of Global Engagement in the College of Engineering & Physical Sciences at UoB. He is also the main academic lead for the institutional partnership between UoB and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, with thematic areas Including Chemistry & Materials, Energy, Additive Manufacturing, Civil Engineering and Life & Environmental Sciences.
