Professor Larner joined the UK Board as an elected member on 1 August 2026.
Professor Larner has been President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University since 1 September 2023, having previously held senior leadership positions at Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Bristol. She is an internationally respected social scientist whose interdisciplinary research has transformed understandings of neoliberalism and globalisation.
Professor Larner is a former President and Fellow of the New Zealand Royal Society, Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Amongst other awards, she is a recipient of the Royal Geographical Society’s Victoria Medal for research excellence, New Zealand’s Women of Influence Award for Innovation and Science, and the New Zealand Distinguished Geographer Medal.
