Professor Bartholomew was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Ulster University in 2020.
Ulster University has a dual-focus on delivering excellent teaching and research across three campuses in Northern Ireland as well as with a number of partners in other jurisdictions.
Professor Bartholomew had a career in the NHS before moving into higher education in 2001. His early academic career was focused on leadership of learning and teaching and academic quality before moving into institutional leadership more generally. Since moving to Ulster he has led on the substantive build and completion of the new 85000 square metre Belfast campus, the launch of a new Medical School and unprecedented growth of the University’s campus in Derry~Londonderry.
Professor Bartholomew is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a National Teaching Fellow and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. His research interests have been centred on video-based discourse analysis and computer supported collaborative learning. His prior teaching activities include radiographic imaging and diagnosis of trauma and disease, curriculum design, academic quality, technology enhanced learning, student engagement and all aspects of academic professional development. Paul has sat on a number of national groups including the TEF Panels.
