Enhancing educational outcomes

These start-ups are improving the ways in which students engage with different educational settings.

Engineer a Career, Glasgow Caledonian University

Engineer a Career is a social enterprise that offers guidance and resources for aspiring engineers, from school students preparing for exams to young professionals seeking chartership or career advancement, to help them achieve their goals. 

It provides resources through articles, social media, and a podcast series featuring diverse engineers. 

The start-up, founded by young engineer and entrepreneur Josh Robertson, has seen impressive growth over a short period of time, with recent live podcast sessions held at venues including the University of Dundee AECOM, as well as his alma mater, Glasgow Caledonian University. The podcast has featured an ever-expanding slate of insightful guests.

With plans to expand across the country, Josh aims to create a robust support network that will help guide the next generation of engineers toward success. This includes more podcasts, live events, and engagement with universities, colleges and schools to support the next generation of engineers engage with industry.

Josh studied MEng Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. After graduating, he gained experience first as a Project Engineer at Doosan Babcock, then as an Engineering Capability Manager at Babcock International.

WorldLynk, Royal Holloway, University of London

WorldLynk is about transforming the student experience. It’s an integrated digital ecosystem that brings together everything students need, from finding verified housing and part-time jobs to accessing mentorship and real-time university support. 

Using advanced AI and a flexible, decentralised platform, it aims to solve key challenges in today’s fragmented higher education landscape and offers a scalable solution for modern universities.

Unifying Services, Cardiff Metropolitan University

Unifying Services is a technology company that enhances student integration in higher education through Augmented Reality (AR) and digital navigation tools. 

The company’s flagship product, UniSteps, offers campus and city navigation, social engagement features, and a Pay-Per-Step (PPS) advertising model. It helps students feel more connected while enabling local businesses to attract student foot traffic.

Bradley Bunce, the founder and CEO of Unifying Services, has a background in Computing with Creative Design from Cardiff Metropolitan University. There, he worked closely with the Centre of Entrepreneurship. He's currently pursuing an MSc in Entrepreneurship at Cambridge University. 

Everybody Counts, Robert Gordon University

Everybody Counts is a scalable AI-powered EdTech platform that democratises access to high-quality math education. By leveraging AI to personalise learning experiences for every child and provide comprehensive support for teachers, it is poised to significantly impact educational outcomes on a global scale. 

ZNotes, University College London (UCL)

ZNotes is an education technology and social impact start-up which addresses educational inequalities by giving millions of students across 190 countries unrestricted access to high-quality educational content. To date, the platform has reached over 6 million students.

Zubair Junjunia founded ZNotes in 2014, having accessed support from UCL to start his business whilst studying for his degree.
