Introducing Universities UK
At Universities UK (UUK), we’re the collective voice of 142 universities. We work with the government and higher education sector to champion UK higher education.
Our mission
We're the collective voice of universities, bringing them together to pursue a common cause: thriving universities, serving society.
We do this by:
- influencing policy and opinion
- bringing our universities together to take collective action
- providing insight into our universities
Our work focuses on:
- Creating opportunity: see Equality, diversity and inclusion and Students

Our members and how we're governed
We have 142 members. Our members are vice-chancellors or principals of UK universities. Members and their institutions must show they meet a set of values and standards.
We’re limited by guarantee with charitable status, mainly financed through subscription from member institutions.
Our Board is our main decision-making body and meets five times a year. The Board has 21 members, including 15 elected members. Find out more how we're governed.
Our work in Wales and Scotland
As the voice of universities across the UK, we must account for the diversity of policies and priorities in devolved nations.
Universities Wales and Universities Scotland work autonomously as part of Universities UK, representing the interests of universities in Wales and Scotland. They campaign, influence and develop policy on behalf of the higher education sectors in the devolved nations.
