Professor Elwen Evans KC is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Prior to her appointment in 2023, she was Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Swansea University.
A Welsh speaker, Professor Evans is committed to working with the University’s key partners and stakeholders to foster and promote opportunities for individuals and communities in Wales, the UK, and internationally. She has served on a wide range of external bodies and committees, and is a Board Member of Advance HE
Professor Evans read Law at Girton College, Cambridge, was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1980, and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2002. She has enjoyed a successful career as a barrister, specialising in criminal law at trial and appellate levels. Her work has included many complex, sensitive, and high-profile cases, such as leading the prosecution team in the April Jones case. She sits as a Crown Court Recorder, having been appointed in 2001, and was Head of Iscoed Chambers for more than 15 years.
