This collection of stories and case studies records how UK universities responded immediately to tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
While universities continue to support our recovery from Covid-19, this publication gives a snapshot of the early work universities, their staff and students were doing towards the national effort.
Published as part of the WeAreTogether campaign, examples include:
- The University of Cambridge led a £20 million UK government project, supported by a group of universities to help understand and control Covid-19
- Scientists at King's College London developed a prototype for a ventilator that quickly became available
- Final-year medical students at universities graduated early to support the frontline effort, offering volunteer services to doctors, nurses and healthcare workers
- Researchers at Brunel University London, Lancaster University and the University of Surrey developed a device to detect Covid-19 in 30 minutes using a smartphone application.
