Mental Health Policy Commission: Investing in a Resilient Generation

​Universities UK (UUK) welcomes a new report from the Mental Health Policy Commission, Mental Health Policy Commission: Investing in a Resilient Generation. 

The report makes recommendations to support a new preventative approach to mental health, and provides an agenda for change.

John de Pury, mental health policy lead for Universities UK, said:

"Universities UK fully supports this report and the Commission's recommendations.

"As this report recognises, real change will be achieved by focusing on the prevention of mental health difficulties in young people. This means intervening early, funding prevention and including prevention in all policies and practices that affect young people, and supporting local conversations about people's mental health. Funding a research Grand Challenge in young people's mental health will also be essential.

"With almost 50% of young adults going to university, the student population offers a significant opportunity to respond to this generational challenge. UUK's work on student mental health is already aligned with the Commission's approach and we welcome its coordinated and practical vision."
