Acting Policy Manager

Max Hastings is an acting Policy Manager for Universities UK, who is currently on secondment to the policy branch of UK Research and Innov​ation (UKRI). 

Max previously supported UUK's research, efficiency and sector infrastructure policy areas, by leading policy development on Open Science, research integrity, UK-wide higher education, higher education procurement, and sector business rates negotiations. His portfolio has also included asset sharing, Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and the sector Accommodation Code of Practice.

He has held a number of positions in the sector since 2005, through which he has fostered a keen interest in university policy development. He previously held roles in student admissions, registry, course delivery, graduate and research offices and international scholarship delivery at Nottingham Trent University and the UK Higher Education International Unit (now Universities UK International), before joining us as a policy researcher in 2014.

Max studied LLB Law with Philosophy at Keele University and MSc Public Services Policy and Management at King's College London, where he focused on Higher Education policy.​
