Katherine Allinson

Universities UK International
Policy Researcher

Katherine Allinson is a Policy Researcher for the Universities UK International Outward Mobility team

Katherine has oversight for the team’s research portfolio, including the flagship research series Gone International reports mapping UK outward mobility activities and analysing the positive outcomes experienced by students who go abroad during their degree.

Katherine has a focus on widening participation in outward mobility activities, and is currently working on projects which focus on social inclusion in mobility. Katherine led a KA3 funded project to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups participating in outward mobility programmes. The project produced a transferable toolkit of practical advice and case studies to help institutions across the EHEA to develop effective strategies to address this important issue.

Katherine has broad experience of working in higher education and her previous roles have included: researching an internationalisation strategy, managing an academic department, running a complaints and academic appeals office, establishing an international alumni network, and researching an estates strategy. Prior to working in Higher Education, Katherine worked for the corporate social responsibility charity Business in the Community for its race equality campaign Race for Opportunity which is committed to diverse, equal and inclusive employment.
