Professor Adam Tickell is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham.

He became vice-chancellor at Birmingham in January 2022. Before this, he was in the same role at the University of Sussex.
Before moving into management and leadership, Adam was an economic geographer and worked on topics as diverse as finance, the politics of ideas and local governance in England.
Beyond working at the university, Adam is leading a review of bureaucracy across the UK research system on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and is chair of the Employers’ Pensions Forum. He is also a member of the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) Board.
Universities are, undoubtedly, one of the greatest assets of the UK and it is a privilege to lead Sussex. Our staff, students and alumni strongly identify with the university and the creativity and excitement of the place is palpable.
