Description
"Those with aspiration and talent, irrespective of background, should have the opportunity to reach their potential. Our economy needs more graduates and we want more of the population to gain from the benefits that arise from a university education." Ruth Kelly speaking in the Guardian.

This is the Executive summary of a report of a project commissioned by Universities UK and the Standing Conference of Principals (SCOP). This is the third in a series of reports undertaken to explore how universities and colleges in the UK are supporting access to higher education for young people from lower socio-economic groups (the previous studies, From Elitism to Inclusion and Social Class and Participation, were published in 1998 and 2002 respectively).

"The report... looks at how institutions are making widening participation schemes increasingly central to their work." The Guardian
