Developments

January 2010

To our members,

As a registered member of the UUK Accommodation Code of Practice, we are consulting with you over the proposed changes to the current code of practice.  The changes do not constitute a fundamental alteration to the requirements of the Code, but seek to clarify those requirements from the experiences of the first three years of the operation of the Code.

Initial consultation with the three professional bodies (CUBO, AUDE and ASRA), NUS and sector auditors has already been undertaken via their representatives on the Sector Advisory Group and Governance Board.  We have also sought feedback from members at the November annual meeting in
2009 which proved to be very helpful.  We are now seeking additional input into the revisions made so far before we present the final document to the Department of Communities and Local Government in April 2010.

In order to maximise the efficiency of the consultation process we have made the Code available, alongside a document which explains the key changes made so far.  Please use the feedback form to forward your comments to the National
Administrator for the code.   We are keen for you to consult with your
respective teams in the halls of residences and with those other university service providers (such as estates or student services) which provide support for your residential operations.  In addition, if you have a partnership arrangement or nomination agreement  with a private provider or registered social landlord, where the property is which are covered by the UUK Code, we would also welcome feedback from these operators.

Deadline for submission of feedback is February 2nd 2010 in time for consideration by the Sector Advisory Group who are meeting on the 3rd February 2010.  The short timescale is driven by DCLG requirements for the final submission.

Please send completed feedback forms to uuk-cop@shu.ac.uk. Many thanks for your time.

October 2008

The majority of members have completed the first round of audits against the code.  A summary of the key findings will be available on the annual report page.

A logo has now been developed for the Code and you will start to see this appear on all our documentation.  In addition, a vinyl A5 sticker has been produced and distributed to all members for display in each of their registered properties.  More stickers are available on request.

If you have any queries regarding these developments please contact the UUK ACOP Administrator.
