Greening Spires report (2008)

This section of the website showcases some of the important work carried out by the UK’s universities in their contribution to tackling climate change.

Here we highlight a range of different and innovative case studies, including:

  • Developing green transport plans
  • Racing cars powered by chocolate and steered by carrots
  • Rescuing rainforests
  • Tackling fuel poverty

Achieving sustainable development will be challenging for us all.  But it also provides a number of opportunities for universities to undertake research, create new technologies for the transition to a low carbon economy, and equip students to manage our activities in a more sustainable way in the future.

Universities are playing, and will continue to play, a critical role in responding to the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.
