Greening the university curriculum 

Many universities in the UK now have well-established degree courses related to the future sustainability of the country.  In addition to the well-established courses, new sustainability courses are being created all the time.

Oxford University

The MSc in Environment Change and Management has been running at Oxford University since 1994.  The course is run by the Environmental Change Institute and consistently attracts around 200 applicants per year to fill 32 places.

The course gives students an in-depth understanding of the causes and consequences of environmental change as well as an awareness of the legal, economic and ethical underpinnings of remedial management.

Kingston University’s MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering provides an in-depth knowledge of renewable energy systems design and development within an engineering environment, including:

  • Solar power engineering design and development
  • Wind power engineering design and development
  • Bio-fuel technologies
  • Renewable energy business and management

Meanwhile, Glyndŵr University has just launched a new BEng (Hons) in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies.  The course covers a range of topics including:

  • Renewable energy
    Construction Technology and engineering dynamics
    Energy and power generation
    Pollution issues
    Sustainability and resource management
