Universities UK’s longer term strategy work aims to lead the thinking about likely, possible and desirable developments in higher education 5 to 20 years in the future.
It provides a focus for debate on longer-term issues, viewing long-term policy in a coherent way across the breadth of the interests of the sector.
Our work on longer term strategy includes anticipating new developments, which may impact on the higher education sector, and to discuss the direction of future policy and highlight matters of longer-term significance for the sector. The main areas of the longer term strategy work are:
- Foresight on the future development of higher education
- Development of longer term scenarios for the UK higher education system and analysis of policy options, implications and consequences for the sector based on evidence.
Each year the longer term strategy work focuses on one particular area. Recent themes include future business models, the future student experience and strategic subjects. This refers to subjects deemed to be of national importance whether that be economic, social or geopolitical importance or where there is a shortage of graduates.
