Universities UK welcomes QAA report into academic standards in higher education

Universities UK has welcomed the publication of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education's (QAA) report into academic standards in higher education. The report looks into ‘concerns about academic quality and standards in higher education in England’. It was published in response to public concerns about academic standards and quality in higher education raised during the summer of 2008.

Diana Warwick, Chief Executive of Universities UK, said: “We welcome the rigorous work done by the QAA in this area following the concerns raised last year. This is a welcome contribution to the continuing, healthy debate about quality and standards in higher education.

“We are committed to a quality assurance system which is accountable, transparent and responsive. We will be examining the recommendations and taking them forward.”

Notes

1. The final QAA report on ‘Thematic enquiries into concerns about academic quality and standards in higher education in England’ will be available at www.qaa.ac.uk on Monday 11 May.

2. Last November, Universities UK published a guide outlining how quality and standards are assessed and assured within UK universities. For further information on this guide, visit: http://www.universitiesuk.ac.uk/Newsroom/Media-Releases/Pages/UniversitiesUKlaunchesguidetoqualityandstandards.aspx
